Introductory Blog Post

My name is Stephania, and the only prior astronomy class I’ve had is the basic astronomy lab at UNC. I also really love stargazing but I don’t really know too much about it. My major is Communication Studies. I’m not sure what career I want to go into but I figure having a degree in communicating with people should cover it. 

I really hope to get more concrete knowledge about stars from this class. I know they’re pretty and I like looking at them but I don’t know tons about them. 

A subject in astronomy that fascinates me is constellations and the arrangement of stars. They seem completely made up and it’s hard to see how anyone thought stars looked like things with the naked eye. It’s really fascinating to me that before light pollution the stars would’ve looked like animals or people, so I’d like to study light pollution and sky observation hundreds of years ago vs today more.
